This month, the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton has a lot of exciting shows – from local entertainment to music from national stars, the centre has it all. Mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
Get Out of Your Own Way
Join Dr. Christopher Lemieux, from Laurier University for his lecture on Canada’s marine biodiversity crisis. The lecture will cover the negative impacts that overfishing, marine mismanagement, rising water temperatures and ship traffic are causing on the marine ecosystems. Dr. Lemieux will explain what the Canadian government has done to address the growing issues and if it’s enough. Join the February Laurier Lecture Series Get Out of Your Own Way on Wednesday, February 12 at 7 p.m.
Disney’s Frozen Jr.
Milton Youth Theatre Productions is turning the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton stage into the magical land of Arendelle with its performance of Disney’s Frozen Jr. On stage, Elsa, Anna and Olaf will sing memorable songs from the animated film – as well as five new songs written for Broadway. This musical tells the story of true love and acceptance between sisters and the emotional relationship and journey when faced with danger. The show runs from Wednesday, February 12 to Sunday, February 16 with times at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and a special P.A. Day time on Friday, February 14 at 12:30 p.m.
A Valentine’s Cabaret
Milton Concert Band has your back – enjoy a Valentine’s Cabaret on February 15, because everyone knows roses are a better value after Valentine’s Day, and the same goes for your night out. Milton Concert Band’s intimate cabaret will bring a night of music, singing and dancing – with a dance floor and all. Catch Valentine’s Cabaret on Saturday, February 15 at 8 p.m.
Kim Mitchell
Before Kim Mitchell set out on his solo career, he spent 10 years learning the ins and outs of the music world with the band Max Webster. Embarking on his solo career in 1982, Mitchell released hit songs like “Patio Lanterns”, which earned him three Juno awards and a SOCAN 100,000 Radio Plays Award, and other hits including “Go For Soda”, “Rock N Roll Duty”, “I am a Wild Party” and more. Catch all your favourite Kim Mitchell songs on Thursday, February 27 at 8 p.m.
Perfect Wedding
Presented by the Milton Players Theatre Group, the “Perfect Wedding” tells the story of a bridegroom on his wedding morning and finds a strange girl in bed beside him. During the ensuing panic to get the stranger dressed and out of the way, the bride arrives and the girl is trapped in the bathroom. The only way out of the dilemma is to persuade the best man to pretend that the hidden girl is his girlfriend. By the time the bride’s parents and half the hotel staff get in on the act, the chaos reaches nuclear proportions.
