Presented in partnership with the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, this series includes 10 free movement workshops over 10 weeks for all levels of experience. The final workshop is a “Zoom-flash-mob” style gathering to move together on June 24, which will be taped and aired for Town of Milton Canada Day virtual celebrations. Open to all ages and dancers under the age of 7 require supervision. You can attend all of the workshops to become a “gold star dancer,” and learn, practice and perfect all three sections of the dance to perform them in the flash mob or participate on a one-off basis and enjoy the experience of learning and the joy of moving.
Each workshop will with start with a warm-up to get us moving and get us connected to our bodies, our space and each other. From there, we will dive into learning a short phrase of material which explores rhythm, dynamics and our unique physicality that we can practice and repeat and enjoy the thrill of dancing to music. These sections can be enjoyed independently each workshop or participants are invited to join us over the six weeks to learn all three sections which can be strung together to create a longer dance.
No matter how many workshops you are able to attend, we invite everyone to come together on Thursday, June 24, 2021 to participate in our very own “Zoom Flash Mob” where we will dance together as a way to celebrate community, music, exercise, and of course, our love for dance. While there have been (and continue to be) many limitations to these times, dance is a wonderful way to experience, express and cultivate hope and joy, and we invite you to join us in this new way of connecting and moving together.
