ArtSparks program

 The ArtSparks powered by FirstOntario program provides all children in Milton in Grades 1 to 8 an opportunity to attend and experience a performance at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, free of charge. This program removes the socioeconomic barriers that often surround the arts.

In-person programming

Bring your class to the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton for an art workshop. Our school programs will expand critical and creative thinking and are tailored to meet curriculum requirements at each grade level.

Book a school program

We welcome elementary school classes, community groups, and organizations.

If you are interested in booking a school program please fill out the school program booking form.

Once you complete the school program booking form a representative from the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton will contact you to confirm your booking request, attendance number, and any accessibility needs.

Program fees

Our school program fees include participant registration and all necessary materials and art supplies. Adults attend our workshop free of charge. Our recommendation ratio of adults to students is 1:10.

An invoice will be sent to you with payment information. Once the invoice is generated no changes can be made to the reservation. Full payment is payable prior to the workshop. FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton has the right to refuse admission if invoice has not been paid in full prior to the workshop.

Transportation isn’t included and must be arranged by the school.

S.T.E.A.M. programs

We provide programs that focus on curriculum for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) classes. Review our S.T.E.A.M. programs and find one that fits your class.

EcoCraft Creations

The EcoCraft Creations program is for students in Grades 2 to 5. Students will use innovative thinking and artistic skills to discuss, design and create an art project using recyclable or biodegradable art supplies.

Curriculum connections

This program will meet the following curriculum guidelines:

  • Grade 2: Science, properties of liquids and solids/movement
  • Grade 3: Science, forces causing movement
  • Grade 4: Science, sound
  • Grade 5: Science, conservation of energy and resources/forces acting on structures and mechanisms

Constellation Watercolour Paintings

The Constellation Watercolour Paintings program is for students in Grades 6 to 8. Students will expand their understanding of the solar system and how bodies in space affect us. They will get to design and create their own constellation watercolour painting.

  • Grade 6: Science, space
  • Grade 7: Science, interactions in the environment

Geometry in Art Collages

The Geometry in Art Collages program is for students in Grades 2 to 6. In this class, students will explore connections with geometry and the everyday world. They will apply their knowledge of geometric forms to create multi-media collages inspired by nature.

  • Grades 2 to 4: Math and geometry
  • Grade 2: Science, growth and changes in animals
  • Grade 3: Science, growth and changes in plants
  • Grade 4: Science, rocks and minerals and history/geography/physical regions of Canada

  • Grade 6: Science, biodiversity

Clay Motivated by Living Things - premium workshop

The Clay Motivated by Living Things program is a premium workshop for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Students will deepen their connection to our region. They will learn how to create clay pieces inspired by plants and animals found in the surrounding environment, such as birds, flowers and more!

Understanding Natural Resources in Paper Making

The Understanding Natural Resources in Paper Making program is for students in Grades 2 to 8. In this program, students will learn about the industrial process and create their own unique piece of paper.

Ted Harrison Watercolour and Collage

The Ted Harrison Watercolour and Collage program is for students in Grades 1 to 8. In this class, students will explore a variety of geologic regions in Canada through the use of collage and watercolour. They will create art that is inspired by the work of Ted Harrison by making colourful landscapes.

  • Grades 1 to 6: History and geography, people and environments

Ancient Asian Shadow Puppets

The Ancient Asian Shadow Puppets program is for students in Grades 4 and up. In this course, students will explore aspects of daily life in ancient Asian countries. They will create their own distinctive shadow puppet modelled after one off the earliest forms of entertainment.

  • Grade 4: History and geography, early societies

Ancient Egyptian Self-Portrait

This ancient Egyptian self-portrait program is for students in Grades 4 and up. Students will create a self-portrait inspired by the famous rulers of Ancient Egypt while gaining an understanding of their unique artistic style.

Ancient Architecture Inspired Clay - premium workshop

The Ancient Architecture Inspired Clay program is a premium workshop for students in Grades 4 and up. Students will consider how architecture relied on social organization and government structures in early societies. They will create a clay form inspired by ancient Mayan, Egyptian or Greek history.

Communication and media literacy programs

Andy Warhol Media Printmaking - premium workshop

The Andy Warhol Media Printmaking program is a premium workshop for students in Grades 3 to 8. In this program, students will reflect on the work of Andy Warhol and his use of imagery in media. They will create individual Warhol-esque prints using current cultural references.

James Rizzi Oil Resist Drawings

The James Rizzi Oil Resist Drawings program is for students in Grades 1 to 8. They will use pop artist James Rizzi's light-hearted portrayal of his Brooklyn New York neighbourhood of tall buildings and busy streets while reflecting on the world around them. Students will create individual drawings that find "colour" and "humor" in life.
